What kind of people will I be sitting at the table with?

Everyone with an Eet Mee account enjoys meeting new people. Just like you. As a dining host, you choose the guests who have registered for your dinner. When you join as a guest, it’s a surprise who else will be there. What you do know is that, just like you, they fit the profile of the dinner you applied for. The first time will probably be a bit nerve-wracking. The participants vary enormously: young, old, people with refugee backgrounds, students, expats. This diversity is precisely what appeals to many participants. And if it doesn’t work out, you’ll always have a story to tell.

Why eat together to meet new people?

People love meeting new people. They want to expand their social network, be new to the city, hear a different story, or enjoy a unique experience. We find that the dining table is the perfect place for this. After all, everyone has to eat.

Food also acts as a lubricant. For example, if someone has made a special family recipe, you immediately have a topic of conversation. But even a simple spaghetti meal can get people talking.

Am I supposed to meet up more often with the people I meet at dinner?

During an Eet Mee dinner, you’ll meet new people who fit the profile of the dinner. You might just click with someone during the dinner and decide to meet up again. This will then become a private contact. However, you’re not obligated to anything. You can also leave it at that dinner and eat with others again next time. It’s entirely up to you

Meal costs: how much do I have to spend on an Eet Mee dinner?

As a dining host, you can choose to cover the cost of the meal, but you can also agree to share the costs or organise a “Bring Your Own” dinner. You can go as wild as you like, but you don’t have to go all out for a good meal. You decide what to make and how much you want to spend. It could be a three-course meal or a delicious pasta dish.

Are you a guest? Don’t forget to bring a small gift for the host or hostess. You can buy something, or do something personal, like bringing a beautiful flower from your garden or homemade jam. Do you enjoy singing? Then you can also sing a beautiful song.

And because Eet Mee relies on subsidies and donations, we hope you’ll consider supporting us with a small contribution after your meal.

Is it safe?

Honestly, in all the years we’ve been matching, we’ve never had a bad experience. We only match with people who have an account with a valid email address and phone number. This is how we ensure your safety.

Why is Eet Mee valuable for the elderly?

As you get older, you might not always feel like cooking for one person or eating alone. Or perhaps your social network has shrunk significantly over the years. As a senior, you can also participate in our Eat Along dinners. You can choose to dine with others your age, or choose not to. Create an account and complete your profile. Then you can organize dinners yourself or register as a guest.

As a senior, you can also become a “regular guest” at a nearby restaurant every month. It’s a win-win situation for everyone: diners enjoy hearing a different story and making a difference, and for guests, it’s a perfect way to enjoy a delicious meal and get to know people in the area—whether they’re a family, a couple, or an individual. If you’re interested, please call us or fill out the contact form, and we’ll contact you for an intake interview. We consider everyone’s wishes and abilities when matching.
